De Kotroute zoekt jong artistiek geweld

Stel je voor: je staat als jong talent op het podium waar ooit Rinus van de Velde, Joëlle Dubois of DJ Masai zijn groot geworden. Niks te Hollywood, maar gewoon keiharde realiteit in Gent. Want op 2 mei trekt De Kotroute opnieuw langs de Gentse studentenkoten. Een kunstenfestival dat volop de kaart van jong talent trekt in het hart van het studentenleven: in en rond studentenkoten. Genoeg van alle klassieke open calls en op zoek naar een uniek podium om jouw artistiek talent te delen met een hoop jong volk? Stop het zoeken, want dit is JOUW kans!

En nu concreet

Op 2 mei wordt Gent hét walhalla van jong talent: van beeldend kunstenaars tot slam-poets, van jonge bands tot performance artists. Die avond toveren we opnieuw studentenkoten en -residenties om tot tentoonstellingsruimtes-voor-één-nacht. Geen white cube dus bij ons, maar out-of-the-box locaties waarbij de afstand met je publiek klein is (figuurlijk dan vooral, soms wel letterlijk). De opbouw, publieksbemiddeling, externe communicatie: wij regelen het allemaal. Surf maar gewoon mee op onze flow!

Hoe zit het met de $$$? Wij exposeren jouw werk en bekijken samen met jou de opties om te verkopen. Aanvullend krijg je een basisvergoeding. Want jonge kunstenaars empoweren is: hen een podium geven én financieel ondersteunen.

Wie ben jij?

• Je bent een jonge creatieveling tussen de 18 en 30 jaar oud. Kunstenaar, literair talent, band of performance-artist? Kunst in al haar vormen is welkom!
• Je bent op zoek naar een uniek podium om je talent te laten zien, met een niet-klassiek publiek die houden van expo’s of performances met een gedurfd kantje.
• Je hebt nog niks gepland op 2 mei: de avond dat De Kotroute doorgaat

Wat geven wij jou?

• Je werkt samen met een hyper creatief team van jonge curatoren met een passie en visie
• Een fantastische ervaring waarbij je de kans krijgt om jouw kunst te tonen op een unieke locatie
• En we moeten er niet om liegen: maar de line-ups van vorige jaren verraden dat De Kotroute op je palmares kunnen zetten écht een pretty big thing is. Van een dikke lancering gesproken.

Selectie

Na 17 maart vindt er een selectie plaats door onze jongerencuratoren. Dit gebeurt op basis van kwaliteit en vibe van het werk, praktische mogelijkheden (past het op één van onze koten) en het genre (zo willen we een mix aan kunstvormen aanbieden).

De Kotroute is coming to Ghent again! De Kotroute is an arts festival that gives a platform to young talent and showcases art in the heart of student life: in and around student housing. Have you had enough of classic open calls and are you looking for an unique platform to showcase your art to a young open minded audience? Stop looking, because this is your chance!

Now, what’s in it for you?

On the 2th of May, Ghent is the pleasure ground for young artistic talent: going from visual artists to slam poets, from bands to performance artists. That night we’re transforming student rooms into exhibition spaces and musea-for-one-night. No white cube, but out-of-the-box locations where there is almost no distance in between the viewers and the art. We’re building an art route from A to Z, in several unique places. The integration, mediation, communication and social media: we’ll arrange it all. Just go with our flow!

What about the $$$? We’ll support you all the way through: from selection to - yes indeed - sales. In addition we’re providing a basic fee. Because we want to seize all opportunities for young artists: from exhibition to financial possibilities.

Profile description

• You are a young creative person between 18 and 30 years old.
• You are a visual artist, band, performance artist, literary talent ...? Art in all shapes and forms is welcome!
• You are looking for a one-of-a-kind venue to showcase your talent, with a versatile audience who love an edgy expo or performance
• You haven’t got anything planned on the 2th of May, the night of De Kotroute

What do we offer you?

• You will work with a creative team of young curators with passion and a clear vision
• A fantastic experience where you get the chance to showcase your art in a creative environment
• And we’re not going to lie: the line-ups of the past years show that putting De Kotroute on your resume is a pretty big thing. The perfect launch for a young artist.

Selection process

After the 17th of March, our team of young curators will start the selection process. We pay attention to the genre and vibe of the work (we want to showcase a nice variety of art forms), and of course what is possible on location.
